Few books have fascinated scholars, cryptographers and historians as profoundly as the Voynich Manuscript. Created in the early fifteenth century, it remains the world's most mysterious book—written in an unknown script that has resisted every attempt at decipherment for more than six centuries.
Its pages are filled with extraordinary botanical illustrations, astronomical diagrams, enigmatic symbols and mysterious human figures unlike anything found in any other medieval manuscript. Despite decades of research by linguists, codebreakers, historians and even modern scientific institutions, its language, purpose and authorship remain unknown.
The manuscript first entered recorded history during the reign of Emperor Rudolf II of Habsburg, who is believed to have acquired it for the extraordinary sum of 600 gold ducats. It later passed through the hands of alchemists, scholars and collectors before being rediscovered in 1912 by the rare book dealer Wilfrid Voynich, whose name it bears today. After changing ownership several times, it eventually became part of the collections of Yale University's Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library.

Part of my thesis I’m writing on rare mystical books involved examining the Voynich manuscript. To be able to have a facsimile in such high quality was truly a God send. It meant that I did not have to fly over seas to Yale University or use the low res photos that had been previous sent to me.
